The memorable female characters and their movies.

Movies have always been a reflection of the society and thus the progression in female characters occured due to progress taking place in society. The memorable female characters that we will never forget and the stories that were written which gave the female actors to perform their best can be concluded by following examples.
The parallel cinema movement which gave us renowned Directors like Satyajit Ray , Mrinal Sen , and many more , during this time we have seen movies like Arth, Ankur, Mirch Masala and many more which had the strong female characters.
The movie ‘Arth’ was about a man, his wife, and the other woman. Shabana Azmi as Pooja and Smita Patel as Kavita have both done justice to their nuanced characters. Although the movie was about a man cheating on her wife, all the attention went towards Shabana Azmi’s multi-layered character . How one can forget the role of ,Nutuan , in Bandini and Meena Kumari in Pakeeza . These times were the times when the film’s were not female oriented but the characters of female protagonist was strong enough to capture the audience attention. The actors like shabana Azmi and Smita Patil worked in some of the best movies of those times and carved a niche for them.
The karishma Kapoor’s character in movie Zubeida is an unforgettable one , the way the vulnerability of a female is shown , similarly an undoubted strength is also weaved in the multilayered character of zubeida. Mehboob khan directorial movie Mother India broke all the records of that time and for the first time one Indian movie chosen on an international plethora. Nargis role in Mother India is one of the best performances in Indian cinema , which fetched this movie the title of All time classic of Indian cinema.
Waheeda Rehman role in the movie guide is still remembered as her best performances.
Movies like Bandit queen, kahaani , Neerja , Nil batey sannata , No one killed Jessica, Queen, Parched, secret superstar, Raazi and the list goes on , all these movies have changed the female protagonist interpretation by the audiences.
Movies like piku, Dangal , Mardani, margarita with a straw , Marykom and many more movies have been made which enthrals the audience with their storytelling and presentation.

Potrayal of women in Indian films and television content.

Media shapes the thought process of people in the society , and hence the content delivered by the media translates into human actions . Cinema and Television are two mediums of mass communication which have a huge impact in the lives of the people.
People relate their lives with the characters potrayed in these fictional and non fictional content and thus an emotional relationship is build which affect the mental thought process of an individual.
Potrayal of women in the cinema or television dramas have been the matter of concern , and thus when we compare the way women’s are portrayed in films and television , we will observe the changing trends . One can say that the potrayal of women in earlier films and in recent films have changed drastically and there are many factors that led to such changes and one factor is the time period.
When we go down the memory lane we will find that cinema has undergone various phases and , thus there was silent era, talkies era, colour cinema , parallel cinema and then the Golden age of the cinema . Earlier the female characters were shown as a showpiece which was kept in the movie for adding the glamour quotient and dancing around trees , getting chased by villan and being protected by his dream Man. This pattern was the repetitive one which we seen in earlier movies and is still continuing in some the commercial masala movies.
But one cannot deny the fact that the time during which these movies were made , our cinema have witnessed some of the best movies of Indian cinema . The parallel cinema movement which gave us renowned Directors like Satyajit Ray , Mrinal Sen , and many more , during this time we have seen movies like Arth, Ankur, Mirch Masala and many more which had the strong female characters.

The potrayal and presentation of characters have changed with the change in the technical aspects, scripting, and the social awareness that have led to the this evolving change . There are various tales that have been popular in telly town and Bollywood industry which are compiled as a history in our magazines in form of features and controversial news stories which open the layers of those times .

This is an unending debate as the way women’s are portrayed in movies because people confuse it with female oriented movies and male oriented movies . One have to clearly understand that a women centric movie is not a guarantee that the movie has represented a women nicely or strongly and a male oriented movie does not have a strong female character. A movie is based on a story and their characters and thus we can say that it depends upon the plot , the writer and director as how they are going to represent their female characters, and also on audience as how they want to see their female characters.

The potrayal of women in our television serials also undergone a similar kind of change, but the trends were different, the concept of SAAS bahu sagas made by EKTA Kapoor ruled on television for a decade , but with the time , there was change in the fictional content and serials like Balika Vadhu changed the entire concept. Now the ideal bahu , ideal wife is no more shy and submissive but is an independent women who can raise her voice against all the old , customs which are barieer to the development of women in society

It needs a holistic approach and a comprehensive strategy to see ithe potrayal of women in media as we want to see, and for that we have to be aware regarding our choices, decisions , and actions and thus we can say the women is represented in a just manner irrespective of the genre and tags like male oriented or female oriented content.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
